In-Sync Pediatric Therapy Center

Children receiving therapy deserve a building designed around their needs — not a repurposed office suite or a generic medical shell. The new In-Sync Pediatric Therapy Center at 6900 Chad Colley Boulevard was designed from the ground up for that purpose, and the 18,200-square-foot program reflects the full range of what comprehensive pediatric therapy actually requires.

In-Sync has served children in the River Valley since 2007, offering speech, physical, occupational, and applied behavior analysis therapies for children from birth to age 21. Their Fort Smith clinic is the only facility in the area offering all four therapy disciplines under one roof — a model that allows clinicians to treat the whole child rather than a single condition. Designing for that model meant designing for complexity.

The building is organized around three distinct therapy zones, each calibrated to its discipline. A physical and occupational therapy wing anchors one side of the building, housing a physical therapy gym, an orthopedic gym, a functional play gym, and a dedicated sensory gym — spaces sized and equipped for the full range of motor and sensory therapies. A separate ABA wing serves children on the autism spectrum with dedicated treatment rooms, an ABA classroom, and a specialized drop-off and waiting area that minimizes the sensory demands of arrival. A central clinical core ties the building together, including a feeding lab with pantry, an ADL kitchen for daily living skills training, evaluation rooms, an infant room, and a quiet room.

What makes the building genuinely distinctive is its relationship to the outdoors. Three separate exterior courtyards are woven into the plan — a PT play courtyard, a waiting courtyard, and a play courtyard — bringing natural light and outdoor therapeutic space into daily clinical life. A dedicated pet yard supports animal-assisted therapy, an evidence-based complement to the clinic’s other disciplines.

The building is designed for children. The corridors are scaled to them, the toilet rooms are sized for them, and the spaces are organized to reduce the anxiety that medical environments so often produce in young patients. That is not an accident — it is the point.

In-Sync Pediatric Therapy Center is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
